Glutathione

The benefits of glutathione.

It's called the body's master antioxidant, and it's the reason Zenvy exists. Here's what it does, what the research shows, and why how you take it matters.

What it is

Glutathione (GSH) is a small peptide your body makes on its own from three amino acids: glycine, cysteine and glutamate. It sits inside nearly every cell you have, neutralizing free radicals and recycling other antioxidants like vitamins C and E back into their active forms.

That recycling job is what earned it the nickname master antioxidant. It isn't one more antioxidant in the queue. It's part of the system that keeps the others working.

Why it matters for skin

Your skin takes the brunt of daily life: UV light, pollution, late nights, stress. All of it generates oxidative stress, and glutathione is one of your main defenses against that kind of everyday damage. Natural levels tend to fall with age while oxidative load rises, and that gap is why people supplement.

What the research shows

Glutathione has real clinical evidence behind it, not just lab work.

In a six-month randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial of 54 healthy adults, daily oral glutathione raised body stores measurably. After six months the high-dose group saw glutathione rise roughly 30 to 35 percent in red blood cells, plasma and lymphocytes. Even the lower 250 mg dose produced significant increases, alongside a measured drop in oxidative stress.

The delivery route turned out to matter just as much. A three-week randomized crossover trial compared oral glutathione, NAC and a sublingual form head to head. The sublingual version came out ahead, producing higher total and reduced glutathione in plasma along with a significantly better GSH/GSSG ratio (p=0.003). The researchers noted that it absorbs through the tissue under the tongue and avoids first-pass metabolism in the liver.

Why sublingual, not a pill

Swallowed glutathione has a hard road. Gut enzymes break peptides apart, and whatever survives goes straight to the liver before it ever reaches circulation.

The tissue under your tongue works differently. It's thin, densely supplied with blood vessels, and drains directly into systemic circulation. That's the whole logic of a sublingual film: give the molecule a route that skips the obstacle course.

It's also why Zenvy is built for a five-minute extended release rather than a strip that disappears in twenty seconds. Dwell time is what gives the actives a chance to cross the mucosa.

Zenvy delivers 100 mg of Setria® L-glutathione per strip. We picked a dose that sits in the range studied in humans rather than a token amount, and the sublingual route is what makes that dose meaningful.
